Attempting to download camera apps for my RX100m4 from Sony is insane. Such great cameras, such horrific procedures to get apps (not to mention they should all be free!). I've done it successfully in the past, but now I am having issues and hope that someone can help me, so I can buy and download the Multiple Exposure app. So, on a Macbook in Chrome and I'm signed in to the site properly; and I can see my previous app downloads. I then go to the Multiple Exposure app page.
When I click on 'Proceed to Purchase' it gives me a pop up that says 'The tools (PlayMemories Camera Apps Downloader) necessary for application download and USB communication to camera will be installed to the PC.' (Stupid assumption, just PC.) When I download it gives me the PC version, so I click on another link I see and I download the Mac installer. The installer completes what appears to be normally.
After my required reboot, I go back and it once again asks me to install the downloader! I do this process several times, but can never get around it continuing to want me to download the installer. It turns out the installer is not an app, but a browser extension, and I do see it in my Chrome browser. I also went and did the same thing with Safari, but no luck there either. Then I do some searching and I see that this does not work in MacOS Sierra. So I go to another mac which runsĀ El Capitan. Same exact problems.
I looked at the review comments for the Chrome extension and it seems no one can get it to work. What the hell do I have to do to get this to work? Since I was able to do it before, I assume it was because I was on something earlier than El Capitan, and Sony has not updated the downloader.
It's pretty damn crazy that first they have the gall to charge us for these apps, and then are too stupid to make the website work so we can pay them. Any help is appreciated. I learned something new. I wanted to see if I could download a free app. I tried and it said I needed to update the firmware on my camera.

I did that: 1.1 to 1.3. I went back in and successfully downloaded a free app.
Feeling enbravened, I tried the purchase again. This time it didn't put me in the apps downloader loop, it brought me right to the purchase page. It referenced my credit card that I have associated with the account and said it was going to bill it for $4.99 and for me to confirm. I did, and then it came up with 'Internal Error' (not on my computer, but on their web page). So I thought, hell, I'll try to do it wirelessly right from the camera, even though lots of people said they have trouble with this.
I got to the purchase screen and it again correctly referenced the credit card it was going to charge and asked me to confirm. I did, and I got 'Internal Error' there too!! So there is something weird with their payment connection. Scriv wrote: Buy a PlayStation store code on Amazon in the dollar amount you need to purchase the app.
Add the code to your PlayMemories account, connect the camera to your wifi and download the app directly to the camera. It's a ridiculous process, but it works. I went through this recently with the time lapse app.
I've seen this referenced before. It's just so difficult to succumb to this - it just angers me so. But before I buy the $5 credit, read my second post in this thread I just made. It is correctly connecting to my Sony wallet where it sees my credit card. So, I'm not sure that using Playstation credits would be any different. Well Holy You-Know-What! I got it to work.
As I mentioned, I made sure my credit card was active and connected to my Sony Entertainment wallet in the sonyentertainmentnetwork.com site (you get there from clicking on your email address at top right on PlaymemoriesCameraApps.com page). Well, there was a warning on that page that said something about my Playstation profile info not being complete.
PlayMemories Camera Apps requires a Sony Entertainment Network account. Check this list for Countries/Regions where the service is available.this list for Countries/Regions.
So I went in and created a user name, added my real name and address, and a security question. Then I went back to try and buy the app again, not thinking that it would work. Shockingly it did. This is so, so absurd. Can't buy a camera app without have a Playstation user name. So to summarize what I did: 1. Updated my firmware to 1.3.
Connected my credit card to my wallet on the Sony Entertainment site. Completed my Playstation profile 4. If it matters or not, was on Safari this time, on an El Capitan mac. Interestingly, when I look at the extensions listed for Safari, it does not show the downloader app it kept asking me to install before. In Chrome it does. Way to go Sony!
This is so clear. Been there, done that with the Playstore. I tried multiple browsers on multiple computers. I felt like I made progress until I received the same Internal Error. As others have recommended purchasing a Playstore card through Amazon.
There is another app or two I would like to purchase but due to the denominations It I would be 'donating' money to Sony. As I would never use all of the credit. Not to mention how horrible an experience this was.
I do not feel the need to go through this headache again. It is a shame that such a great camera is 'punished' by some stupid failures. Still love the camera but Sony could make more money and make the ownership experience much better.
